The Lake Chelan Teen Center's tutoring and recreational programs for October2009 to June 2010 are up and running.
The after-school tutoring program is being conducted once again by veteran tutor and manager Lorianne Kitzman of Methow. Sixth grade through senior level students enjoy meeting with Lorianne and volunteer tutors in the secondary school library Monday through Thursday for help with homework and a chance to use school computers and other resources.
Lisa Noren was hired to be the new manager/primary supervisor of the Teen Center's evening program located in the basement of the Lake Chelan United Methodist Church on the corner of Johnson and Emerson in downtown Chelan.
Lisa has been arranging nutritious meals, and planning and implementing educational and leisure activities for the recreational program which is offered Friday and Saturday nights from 6 to 11 p.m. for middle school and high school students in the Lake Chelan Valley.
Other paid primary and secondary supervisors include Jo Ellen Moore, Travis Farrar, Kathy Jacobson, Sifrido Rivera and Aaron Best. All have received security clearance from the Washington State Patrol.
Funding for the two-prong youth program is adequate for the current calendar year. Last month, the Chelan-Douglas County Community Network awarded a $4,999 grant for the tutoring program. Additional funds from the City of Chelan, and other community agencies and charitable organizations are pending.
Private donations to support the Teen Center may be mailed to the Teen Center, PO Box 3051, Chelan WA 98816. Donations from the community at large is an important factor in the annual budget.
The Teen Center Board of Directors includes Therese Bublitz, Patti Caputo, Vicki Carr, Don Mollet, Mary Murphy and Paul Palumbo. Anyone with questions about volunteering or serving on the board should contact Murphy at 687-3210.
With great appreciation for all the continued volunteer efforts and financial support, the Board is able to continue offering these youth programs for the benefit of the entire community.
